If you are just starting out buying gear, you may be wondering if it is worth it to buy complete DJ equipment. As with so many other things in life, the answer is “It depends.” For some people, buying a set up of complete DJ equipment saves time, saves money, and enables you to have everything you need to start practicing and start working. New DJ’s often don’t think of small things that are needed to complete the set up. Buying everything in one package can solve this problem.

Many DJ’s, however, prefer to have control over their gear. They know what they need and what they like, and for these people getting everything individually not only makes sense, it costs them less in the long run. Most complete DJ equipment sets are made for beginners who are just starting out and anyone who already has some gear will find that they’re paying to own extras of what they already have.

Pioneer, Numark, Gemini, and Stanton all offer complete DJ equipment packages. You’ll find that these are similar, though the price range will determine what is included in each set. If you are able to afford around $4,000, you can get a set that contains the Pioneer CDJ800MK2 CD and MP3 turntable, the DJM800 DJ mixer, and a pair of headphones. This is a great deal if you were planning on getting this turntable and mixer, but not if they don’t meet your needs.

Other sets are made for the new DJ who is hoping to get all of their equipment with a single purchase. An example of that is the Numark Total Computer DJ In A Box. It is a starter rig for a  computer DJ with software, interface, controller, and headphones. Since this only costs a few hundred dollars, it is a good way for new DJ’s to get started. It’s also the type of kit that makes a good gift to someone who is considering becoming a DJ.

Overall, sets of complete DJ equipment only make sense for beginners, and even then better deals can often be found if you take the time to research. On the other hand, sometimes sets offer discounts on gear that you wanted to buy anyway, and it makes sense to buy these.
